The retailers supply chain is an area of ever increasing focus. Ambient consolidation has been practised by Tesco and Sainsburys for a number of years helping them to take greater control of the supply of goods arriving at their warehouse and optimise their transport utilisation.

With the increased focus on reducing carbon footprints and reducing food miles retailers/wholesalers can collaborate effectively reducing their supplier and their own supply chain complexity and costs. This will significantly increase transport utilisation and thus impact the retailers and suppliers carbon footprint and food miles.
Historically the unwillingness of retailers to collaborate has meant that only the biggest retailers have been able to set up successful schemes in their own right but with collaborative consolidation this is set to change.
